Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

At the beginning of the Gospel, the people shout: “Hosanna to the Son of David!” They welcome Jesus as King, waving palms and celebrating his arrival in Jerusalem.

When Jesus arrives at the tomb of Lazarus, everything seems finished. He has been dead four days. Martha and Mary are grieving. The stone is already in place. Humanly speaking, there is no hope left.

Today the Church celebrates Laetare Sunday, a moment of light in the middle of Lent. And the Gospel gives us a powerful image of discipleship: the man born blind who gradually comes to see.
At the beginning of the story, the man cannot see Jesus. He only experiences His mercy. Jesus places mud on his eyes and sends him to wash. He obeys, and he returns able to see.

Jesus and the Samaritan Woman at the Well

Today on this Third Sunday of Lent, the Church gives us the Gospel of the Samaritan woman at the well (cf. Gospel of John 4:5-42). It is no coincidence that this Gospel accompanies the First Scrutiny of our catechumens. This is the Sunday of thirst.
Jesus meets a woman who comes to draw water at noon - tired, burdened, carrying her past. He does not begin with condemnation. He begins with thirst: "Give me a drink."

The Transfiguration

On this Second Sunday of Lent, the Gospel presents us with the Transfiguration of the Lord (Matthew 17:1-9). Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up the mountain. There, His glory is revealed. His face shines like the sun. His clothes become dazzling white. And the Father's voice declares: "This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him."
